Charleston, WV Table Tennis

9-24-2013 MESSAGE TO THE CTTC - Ryan Robinson

The CTTC managed to survive the first night of the new (old) Teams/Round Robin format.  We had 31 players playing in both the Teams and Round Robin formats, that is more than we had at any time last season.  I want to thank everyone for being patient while we got the matches organized.  Big thanks to Chris Held and Bob Huston for taking charge of the Round Robin and recording the games properly.  The night did not conclude without some issues that need to be addressed.

First, I hate to steal Dale’s thunder but if you have not paid your league dues please do so next week.  $25 is a small price to pay for the amount of table tennis you will get to play through the course of the season.

Please do you best to get to the club before 6pm on Mondays.  That will give you a few minutes to warm up before we start play.  If you will be late please call someone so they can get you down on either the Round Robin or the Teams match sheets.  Because of late arrivals the Round Robin players had to keep adding matches to their score sheet.  Had we known who would be there they could have split into 2 groups.

Captains before you start warming up please fill out your match sheet so we are not trying to fill it out as matches are beginning.  If you are late tell a player on your team to fill it out.

Once a substitute has been selected and has played his first match for your team I think it only fair to allow him to complete the match with your team even if your regular player arrives late.  As long as players call in if they will be arriving late this should not be an issue.

Please take your time and NEATLY fill out your match sheets.  List players by last name only, first name is fine as long as an initial is used for the last name.  It took me 3 hours to compile the stats last night so please help me out by taking time to fill sheets out neatly.

Lastly, the hot topic issue of the night was substitution so here it goes.  Captains it is your responsibility to find substitutes when you are missing a player.   Feel free to contact a potential sub when you find out a player will be absent then send an email to Dale, Igor, Gretchen and myself or call us to claim that player for the upcoming week (first come first serve).  Any player (league rated) at 1299 and under may sub for any level player, 1449 and under may sub for a 1 or 2 level player and 1450 and above may only sub for a 1 level player.  BE WARNED any non league rated player will be rated by me, using a 3 pass method, based on his match results.  If he rates out higher than the limits set above for the level player he substituted for his matches will be forfeit for the match.  This is the only fair way to do it.

I think everything went very well on Monday, just try to bear with us as we work through some of these issues.

Regards,

Ryan
